You will need a TFTP server for this. If the current firmware version is substantially older than the most recent, review the information on the download page and the Release Notes to verify that you can update directly to the new version. The firmware can be downloaded from CLI, but this tutorial will cover the menu interface way of downloading it. You can enter the menu from the CLI by running:. Then, change the Remote File Name to the name of the.

Once the firmware finishes installing, the switch will need to be rebooted for the changes to take effect. You can then verify it updated successfully by running:. Might want to add some screenshots, separate code from text, and clean it up from just bold text titles. Great stuff, just needs a little reorganizing. Much appreciated. Some times the first step can be overlooked: checking the current version. Thanks for the command and for advising the TFTP server requirement.

I will file your "How To" and direct others to it. You forgot to mention I've experienced issues on a number of times where upgrading firmware has caused the device to reset to factory settings. This isn't limited to HP switches, but it's always a good idea to have the config saved just in case.

Is it a good idea to update them to the latest version or in stages across all? I'm looking at a HP switch with the factory installed FW but there's been about 10 updates since then. Would the latest be okay? That couldn't have been more precise! I have never updated the firmware on one of these switches before and using the ethernet port and the console cable I just upgraded an older ProCurve the other day, and something I did not realize You can't necessarily update to the latest and greatest update if the firmware is say, 6 years old.

I think there's a formula for this, but if you ever get a 'corrupt file' error while updating the firmware, it is likely you're trying to make too big of a jump at once. But perhaps I was experiencing other oddities at the time when I was trying an out-of-band update.

Which was a relief, as like a fool, I flashed to both primary and secondary without first checking the firmware would work without issues.

Can't really answer your question but They still operate as independent devices. So, they'd need to be upgraded individually. I upload the new firmware to all the switches and set it as the primary image. Then, reboot the stack from the commander.

My procurve 's do that, but not the Aruba In the procurves, you're asked which one you want to manage. So there's no option to update as one switch since that's how it's presented to you? I mean, how would you do it if it was one switch? FlexStack has the capability to upgrade all members with a single command. A single command eases the operational burden on the network administrator.

The command to initiate an upgrade takes place on the master. The master makes sure that each member is properly upgraded.

Cisco reference. This writes the config to memory, copies your primary config to secondary config, grabs the firmware from my TFTP server, then boots the entire system.

Note that this will take more time than a single switch because as was described above, the commander will copy the software to the standby, then reboot, then reboot the standby. My standalone switches normally reboot in about two or three minutes To continue this discussion, please ask a new question.

2930F Series

There are no errors shown. I can see that the OS has been uploaded but the Controller just says upload in progress. I have tried upgrading version: 3. It fails to upgrade the OS every time.

Next logical step for me is to attempt to upgrade the OS via the command line. Can anyone provide the commands to do this? Failing that, what would you suggest? Idle power is the actual power consumption of the device with no ports connected not applicable to the 8G switch.Hi all, This is my first post here. I was hoping someone would be able to help me please. I've had a bit of a Google and even read a few posts on here that are quite similar, but not exactly the same. Unfortunately, I've not been able to find an answer to my question. Most things I've read suggest that it should just work.

Network Management

It's half term, so I can get away with doing reboots, or scheduling them to run over night. Most are running WC. However, I've downloaded WC. All are working fine. This is true for the ones that have been updated as well. I downloaded the firmware and manually uploaded this to all the switches via the GUI we don't currently have Airwave, or any other method that I'm aware of to manage the switches and scheduled reboots over the next few days.

However, I've just found that one of these switches, a VSF stack two switchesis a bit upset with the update. The update has worked fine on the single switches.

- Product documentation

Looking at another one of my stacks, this time three switches, the firmware update has been successful too. However, this is running WC. In addition, I manually provisioned the switches in this stack. This was done a few weeks ago, and were purchased separately for a new building. My question is, how do I update the firmware on VSF stacked switches please?

Am I doing something wrong, or could this just be an issue with this one stack? Being in a stack, I assumed the firmware would apply to all switches. I think this was the case for our previous switches - non-HP. Thank you in advance. Kind regards Grey Fox. Go to Solution. Hi Parnassus, Thank you for your reply. I've used, 'show vsf detail' and 'show flash' previously, which is how I found the differing software versions.
